Listen: Recording Of Chris Farley As ‘Shrek’ Resurfaces After Documentary Release

Shrek

Two years ago producer Gohn Garbett posted an audio clip on his website that featured storyboards from the animated hit movie Shrek with late Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley providing the voice of the titular green ogre.

Originally cast in the role opposite Eddie Murphy, Farley had most of the film’s voice work completed at the time of his untimely death from an overdose at age 33.

Garbett’s two-and-a-half minute clip resurfaced this week following the release of a new documentary about the comedian, “I Am Chris Farley,” which was executive produced by the late star’s brother Kevin.

“The (original) concept was the Shrek character was a little bit more like Chris, like a humble, bumbling innocent guy,” Kevin Farley said in a July 30 interview with Yahoo! Movies.

Farley said that despite his brother’s near completion of the film, he understands why movie studio DreamWorks chose to replace him with fellow SNL alum Mike Myers.

“I understand why [they replaced him],” Kevin said about the studio’s decision, “They probably wanted to make Shrek 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… The studio needed to do what they needed to do. It was a bad time, bad timing… a tragedy. Mike did a great job with Shrek. He knocked it out of the park.”

“I Am Chris Farley” is currently playing in select theaters and will premiere on Spike TV on August 10 at 9pm. Check local listings.
